Protea African Queen
Protea African Queen showcases large, velvety pink flower heads framed by broad green leaves, making it a standout focal stem for bouquet programmes and premium retail floral lines. Strong stems and reliable grading ensure excellent performance in bulk exports.
Protea African Queen (Protea magnifica) is one of the most recognisable members of the Protea family, known for its impressive flower heads with layered pink bracts edged in black, surrounding a soft, silvery centre. Its striking appearance and robust form make it ideal for use as a focal flower in premium bouquets, seasonal promotions, and straight-line bunches. Native to South Africa and cultivated locally by growers, it is highly valued in international floral programmes for both its aesthetic impact and vase longevity.
Quality & Handling
- Cut at peak maturity when inner bracts begin to unfurl, then immediately cooled to 4 °C to preserve peak freshness.
- Maintained under a continuous cold-chain, with rigorous grading for head size, stem length, straightness, and leaf quality—ensuring consistent supply across bulk consignments.
- Expected vase life of 14–21 days when conditioned properly: re-cut stems underwater at a sharp angle on arrival, hydrate promptly in clean water, and refresh every 2–3 days. Use floral preservative during refreshes to optimise performance.
- Ethylene Sensitivity: Low, making it ideal for long-distance export and extended display.
